When US troops came to destroy native villages, native men would go off to fight while women stayed in the village. US troops would not engage in battlefield but rather go to villages and rape or kill women and children. Natives did not understand that form of battle, so native women started fleeing to the mountains whenever their husbands went off to a war and they would wave their shawls in the mountains so that their husbands could find them when they returned and retrieve them to rebuild their village. This song is about one woman who’s husband never returned, so she kept waving her shawl until she became one with the wind.
First song Mumu Fresh sings in this video is also the song that she sang for us at Hopkins.
